Switching to a new phone? You don’t have to lose your precious chats, media, and settings. WhatsApp makes it pretty easy to transfer data between devices, whether you're moving from Android to Android, iPhone to iPhone, or even across platforms.
Android to Android Transfer:
On your old device, open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
Tap Back Up to Google Drive.
On your new Android device, download and open WhatsApp.
Log in using the same phone number.
After verification, tap Restore when prompted.
Wait for the process to complete, then tap Next to finish setup.
Make sure you’re using the same Google account on both phones.
iPhone to iPhone Transfer:
On your old iPhone, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
Tap Back Up Now to iCloud.
On your new iPhone, install WhatsApp and verify your number.
Tap Restore Chat History when prompted.
Done! All your old chats should appear.
Android to iPhone (or Vice Versa):
Transferring across platforms used to be a pain, but WhatsApp now supports it with the Move to iOS app or the built-in Transfer tool.
For Android to iPhone:
Use the Move to iOS app during iPhone setup.
Select WhatsApp in the data transfer options.
After transfer, install WhatsApp and verify your number on iPhone.
You’ll be prompted to Restore the data.
For iPhone to Android:
Use a compatible USB-C to Lightning cable.
During Android setup, scan the QR code using your iPhone.
Follow the on-screen prompts to migrate data.
Note: Make sure both devices are fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi for a smoother transfer.
